"Gentleman's"pocket folding knife - quality makes?
(OK, before people start whining that this is the wrong section: I'm gay, the friend is gay ... and I have already asked this in four other sections with no responses)
A friend is turning 50 soon, and we are looking for a quality pocket knife to give as a present. Something very good looking (maybe engraveable), but that can be used every day.
Can any one tell me about quality makes (available in UK)?
He likes blades that lock, and hates knives with clips.

All the above are good suggestions (although Spyderco knives almost invariably have clips - these can sometimes be removed, but leave screw holes that spoil the overall look).
Are you looking for just a general daily-use knife, or are you looking for a presentation item that can be used daily?
A lot also depends on how much you want to spend: a decent, but fairly ordinary pocket knife is going to to be anything from 50 quid upwards, but a presentation knife could cost up to ... well, name a figure. I have seen knives at 1,500 quid plus.
In the UK, a good place to start looking is http://www.heinnie.com They have a huge range (from tiny pocket knives to huge butch machetes). If they don't have exactly what you want you can search on for the websites of specific makes of which you like the look. Heinnie are based in Wales, and most overseas sites will happily ship to the UK.
Clipless makes I like: Fox; Maserin; Skalja; Fontenille-Pataud; SOG (I have just been told that they do a nice gentleman's folder in stainless steel ... ideal for an inscription); William Henry (some beautiful knives, but also very expensive); Klotzli; for some really beautiful French knives try http://www.graveline-couteliers.com
